If you donโt feel like making (or eating) a prosciutto-wrapped head or a spaghetti-brain cake this Halloween, fear not! I didnโt either. Even the peeled grapes game grosses me out.
I prefer to start with the recipes I know and love and convert them into something festive for Halloween.
Thatโs exactly what we did here! Follow these menu ideas or just get inspired to go your own way. Itโs surprisingly easy to plan a fun (and spooky) party with whatever you want to serve.

Meatball Monsters

Italian Meatballs
Make it spooky: Make the Italian meatballs (or turkey meatballs) and heat in marinara sauce. Or substitute frozen meatballs and your favorite store-bought spaghetti sauce. Add sliced green olives with pimentos for eyes.

Make it spooky: Cut the crescent roll triangles into even smaller strips and wrap them individually around cocktail wieners. Use yellow mustard for eyes, then serve with plenty of extra ketchup and mustard on the side for dipping. (Hereโs the tray if youโre interested).

Basic Deviled Eggs Recipe
Make it spooky: Hard-boil eggs (or buy them already done) and make these classic deviled eggs as directed in the recipe. Then top with black olives cut up as spiders. Use tweezers if needed to arrange the spider legs.

7 Layer Dip Recipe
Make it spooky: Rearrange the layers of Seven Layer Dip so guacamole is on top, then add a โwebโ using sour cream in a squeeze bottle. Garnish with a plastic spider. Taco dip would be a delicious base, too (just top it with guac so you can see the web).

Dirt Cake
Make it spooky: Inspired by the Oreo Brownie Trifle, I created a Dirt Cake with extra crushed Oreos and vanilla pudding topped with Milano cookies (write on the โtombstonesโ with Wilton decorating gel). Add gummy worms for extra credit!
Biscotti Ghosts

Cherry Almond Biscotti
Make it spooky: Bake the biscotti (or use store-bought), then dip in melted white chocolate. Add eyes and a spooky mouth with Wilton decorating gel or melted dark chocolate. Candy-dipped walnuts can also become pumpkins or ghosts. Or try meringue mushrooms but piped into ghosts.
Pumpkin Cookie Balls

Oreo Cookie Balls
Make it spooky: Make the filling for the Oreo cookie balls as directed, substituting Pumpkin Spice Oreos for the regular if you can find them. Instead of dipping in chocolate, dip in melted orange melting wafers or white chocolate tinted orange (or use white chocolate and roll in orange sugar). Add a small pretzel stick and a green M&M as the โstem.โ

Fruit Punch Recipe
Make it spooky: To get the orange color, top the punch with a quart of orange sherbet. Garnish the bowl and individual glasses with plastic spiders. For the 21+ crowd, substitute a big batch of Pirate Punch. (Here is the punch bowl and glasses shown in the photos).

Dill Dip Recipe
You can add candied eyes to anything these days, and they look so cute on a platter of fresh fruit and veggies. Delicious with dill dip or ranch dressing.
Spooky Cheese and Crackers
Use Halloween cookie cutters to cheese slices into ghosts, spiders, or anything else that scares you. Serve with crackers and candied eyes if desired. ๐
