Megganโ€™s notes

Cooking onions is a way to tap into the magic of chemistry. Cooked onions are mellow and slightly sweet, and definitely wonโ€™t make your eyes water in the same way as their raw peers. Instead, you can coax out the deeply sweet, rich flavor hiding in their natural sugars.

An air fryer is a hands-off option for cooking onions, and the Air Fryer Onion recipe ahead is one of my new favorite hacks for punching up their flavor in 10 minutes or less.

Recipe tips and variations

  • Yield:ย This Air Fryer Onions recipe makes about 1 cup, enough for four 1/4-cup servings.
  • Storage:ย Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Spice things up: In addition to salt and pepper, feel free to add more dried herbs and spices to the oil-dressed onions before cooking. Chili powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, Italian Seasoning, and Taco Seasoning are among my personal favorite flavor-boosters.

If you love onions, youโ€™ll love this soup! French Onion Soup gets itโ€™s flavor from deeply caramelized onions and a punch of brightness from balsamic vinegar.
