Meggan’s Notes

There’s something about a lox bagel that instantly elevates the morning. It’s simple, but when done well, it feels luxurious.

The key is starting with high-quality basics: fresh bagels, good cream cheese, and premium lox. From there, a few thoughtful additions like capers, fresh herbs, lemon, or even salmon roe transform it from everyday to memorable.

And a quick clarification: lox and smoked salmon are not exactly the same. Lox is salt-cured but not smoked, giving it a silky texture and clean flavor. Smoked salmon works beautifully too, but traditional lox keeps things classic.

This recipe is less about strict rules and more about thoughtful assembly. It’s familiar, elegant, and endlessly customizable.
